I prefer being behind the camera instead of in front of it … rarely does the photo turn out good unless I have my hair stylist guru flatiron my hair and the day is lacking in obscene amounts of humidity.

Sadly, for me, neither of the above occurred when I went to renew my driver’s license yesterday. Semi curly hair + humidity + being told to smile by the DMV lady resulted in a photo that, quite honestly, seriously sucks.

Maybe I’ll move or get married before it expires … or maybe I could just *lose* it on a day when I have time to flatiron my hair …

Every once in a while, when we become overwhelmed, we should take time to step back and observe the world around us. Life passes by too quickly not to.

Those that know me know I typically spend springtime out photographing the glorious blooms around East Texas, whether in my own yard, along roadsides, or wherever I may happen across them. Beyond a quick getaway to Ellis County recently, I haven’t done so. Shame on me. So, last night (Thursday) I took a 15 minute break before the sun completely set and wandered around my yard to capture the early blooms of the season … this would be my favorite shot:

If you’ve had a portrait session with me, you know I have a tendency to contort myself or lay down on the ground to get the shot I have envisioned. Same thing with my ‘fun’ or artsy photography. One of my favorite shots I captured a couple springs ago resulted in me laying on the sidewalk in the middle of the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens while the other passers-by thought I was nuts. This time, however, I was hunched down as low as I could literally curl up into without sitting or laying down (Hannah, I’m certain, knows what I mean!).

I also captured a few ‘outtakes’ of the most loyal male in my life — my Rascal. He suffers from PDS aka Photographer’s Dog Syndrome. He doesn’t like me so much when that big black thing covers my face — nor does he really like my P&S either anymore. So I rarely capture a great portrait of him anymore Shame, he’s such a hansome fellow. I realize this isn’t as spectacular of an image of him as it could be, but I was shooting through a gate from 15 feet away at 75 mm.

Lastly, this lil guy joined me for the last five or so minutes, constantly winding his way through my legs to show me how much he loves me. He’s a part time resident of mi casa — apparantly someone dumped him out and he adopted us. Lately he’s also gotten into some battles with some foxes roaming nearby and I have to guess they roughhoused him a little too much based on the wound on the back of his head. That’s what I assume he was telling me all about while he kept me company as he didn’t stop meowing for a few minutes! Anyway, I finally asked him to hold still so I could get a portrait of his handsome self — and he did! This image is actually rotated 180 degrees — that’s my foot along the right edge. So … meet Yea Yea (dubbed such since his meow sounds like he is saying “Yeah, Yeah” …

I love Victoria’s Secret for one reason — and one reason only — their coupons. Free underwear, $10 ‘gift cards’ at my birthday and Christmas, and their awesome coupon codes combined with sales and clearances. I typically only buy when I can score a really good deal or just get their free underwear. Which is roughly twice a year + the monthly freebie underwear.

Last week I scored a flannel pj set ($59.95 regular price) + free pair of houseshoes for $33 w/ shipping and tax.

Earlier I found a $10 off code and got some more sleepware for $16 total.

But … when I went into the store to use my $10 ‘gift card’ I couldn’t find anything I liked in my size. Didn’t need more underwear seeing how many I’ve scored there this year — in fact, I’ve given a couple of my coupons away because I was too lazy to venture to the store by the expiration date. The bras I liked were more than I wanted to pay after the $10 was taken off — and the ones I like that aren’t overpriced after the coupon are only available online. I don’t need more lotion or perfume, B&BW takes care of that w/ their freebie coupons. Have no one to wear lingerie for, so that’s a wasted expense. So, what of all things do I walk of there with?

Hair products.

Yeah, you read that correctly. Hair products — their 3 for $24 deal — shampoo, detangler, and hair refreshing cloths all for a little over $15. Did I mention it smells very good?

Go ahead, laugh your butt off after the stunned silence wears away. Everyone else is.

You can thank me for your daily endorphin dose later

BTW, don’t forget to comment on the next entry — mid week loves — I’m giving a B&BW $10 off $30 purchase coupon on Sunday evening — leave a comment answering the question by noon on Sunday if you want a chance to win it!

The workday before a holiday weekend always seems to take forever to go by for me, especially during the warm weather months. Today was no exception. The last hour itself took forever.

How does one cope with the slow passage of time?

Keep something in your office that reminds you of summer/vacation/time off that will make the slow passage of time pass by less painfully.

For me, its two things currently …

Claeys Old Fashioned Hard Candies in Watermelon–I bought these at the local Atwoods (what? I’m a farm girl who happens to occasionally shop at farm stores!) I’ve also tried the lemon drops (yummy) and horehound (not so great, thankfully I wasn’t the one that bought the bag). I wish they made these in <a href="http://www.montanatreasures.com/category.cfm?Category=7&CFID=506551&CFTOKEN=19498150" target=_">huckleberry since my stash received from my best friend has long since run out and only the local Cracker Barrel carries the huckleberry cane sticks. After browsing their huckleberry offerings, it seems they no longer have the huckleberry hard candies Timber!!!!!!!!!! Hook a girl up if you happen to see some somewhere…anywhere

Alba Botanicals Hawaiian Cocoa Butter Hand and Body Lotion–I bought it at the local Walgreens. While it was a little pricey for Walgreens, it was cheaper than buying the equivalent size at Bath and Body Works.
