Ah, how a simple gesture as the words, “I’d ask you how your day is going but it looks like you’ve had a bad day,” kindly coming from a teenager (male, in case you’re wondering) can actually be a pick me up. I told him he was correct and would gladly swap days with him. He said he went to school and then to work, then had to go home to do homework still. I told him I’d gladly take that–considering I started my day visiting clients (rather than them visiting me at my office–I work in CJ) and ended it with getting my socks and shoes soaked walking the two and a half blocks from my office to the parking lot after work in the downpour that hit shortly before the end of my workday. Topped it off with arriving at the gas station to get gas that had been $3.42/gal just prior to 7 am was now $3.53/gal (yes, at the same station). At that point, I decided to let someone else fix the next two days worth of lunch as I didn’t have the energy to…which is where the kind teen came in. Not only did he brighten my day with a simple observation, but so that my lunch the next two days wouldn’t be soggy, voluntarily put all the veggies in a separate bowl without hesitation. I didn’t catch his name, but I would love to tell his parents they raised a wonderful boy who’ll hopefully grow up to be great man one day.

And as I write this*, I’m enjoying the bacon chicken ranch sub he fixed me

*written hours ago during my lunch hour!

I know I don’t post a lot of personal stuff anymore due to privacy reasons, but I figured I’d post an update for those that wonder what’s going on behind the scenes the last several months. Since shortly after graduation, I’ve been working in a position that, while I enjoy what I do, it just wasn’t what I wanted to be doing permanently. Thankfully, due to persistance, some connections (personal and professional), and luck, I finally succeeded in receiving a job offer last week in an area of the field that I want to spend my career in. While I won’t say what publicly, it is a stepping stone towards two of my career goals that puts me much closer to achieving them.

Non job-wise, I’ve been trying to put together a photography portfolio and develop a portfolio site the past couple of months. In addition to shooting my brother’s senior photos, I was able to also do a session with my best guy friend and his wife recently. In time, I’ll share the link to the new site, once the site is ready to go live, that is. A few of the photos are on my flickr account right now. While I don’t feel confident enough to turn portrait photography into a side venture just yet, I do plan to spend some time in the coming months convincing some folks to be ‘guinea pigs’ so that I can build the portfolio up and further develop my photography skills.

In the meantime, for those of you that have been longtime readers, I’ll be glad to share with you (via email) what I’ll soon be doing career-wise and the link to the not ready to go live site if you’re interested…just leave a comment and I’ll respond as soon as I can.

def: v. meaning to lose all knowledge; through physically leaving a place or flat out forgetting completely.

I frequently mentally compose entries to post here, but am usually nowhere near a computer, muchless an internet connection…or even paper and pencil to jot down key words. In fact, I composed a fairly quirky one last night that I planned to post here today. Sadly, however, brain drain occurred (once again) and I cannot remember it. At all. Just that I planned to post something here. Go figure.

So with that, I ask just one favor for this week…please send lots of positive thoughts, prayers, crossed fingers, whatever to Houston on Saturday so that the bro goes in and quite literally rocks the state meet he’ll be competing in. Its his senior year, so it would be a great way to finish off his high school athletic career. And, maybe, a recruiter from one of the few schools that has his sport as a club sport that does offer scholarships will make an offer. That part would be a bonus, but it never hurts to hope it could happen

I’m home and in bed on my doctor’s orders (if he wasn’t like a second father, I’d probably ignore them and go to work) since I have the beginnings of an upper respiratory infection and strep throat and a fever. So I’m stuck with dial up internet and hours of boredom to kill. So, while I wait for forever and a day for photos to upload to flickr, I’m completing a survey I’ve swiped from The Noodle Incident and Quiet Soul.
