I know this is Texas — which should consider changing the state nickname/slogan from The Lone Star State to The Bipolar Weather State in the next legislative session — but methinks three snowfalls in the last five and a half weeks (plus the two others that didn’t stick to the ground back in December) is a bit overkill. Don’t get me wrong, I love snow. I love playing in it and taking photos of it. But I just would like it to be a bit more evenly spaced out so we might get a snow day next year … is that too much to ask?
Sincerely,
Me

To the rest of the world … yup, snowfall numero tres of 2010 hit on the second day of Spring. *sigh*

<a href="http://www.thelastlecture.com/" target=_">The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch

I recently read the <a href="http://www.parade.com/articles/editions/2008/edition_04-06-2008/1My_Last_Lecture" target=_">Parade article and saw the <a href="http://abcnews.go.com/gma/lastlecture" target=_">interview <a href="http://download.srv.cs.cmu.edu/~pausch/" target=_">Randy Pausch had with Diane Sawyer. While I’ve not listened to the lecture yet (pesky dial up connection), I read his entire book in one sitting. All I can say is that it is a must read. I’m trying to convince my 19 year old brother, who doesn’t like to read anything not for school or a magazine or online, to read it. It took me a couple of weeks to locate a copy that would be sent out immediately, as most online stores were out of stock and backordered, but it was worth the wait.

In case you would like to check in on <a href="http://download.srv.cs.cmu.edu/~pausch/news/index.html" target=_">Randy, he’s posting updates here. Be sure to check out his Feb 15th entry…you’ll have to read the book for the background on it

Also, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Pausch" target=_">Wikipedia has an extensive entry regarding his career/academic accomplishments and ongoing battle with cancer.

Four years ago today, I was awakened by a house shaking (I live in a brick house firmed affixed to the ground) and window rattling booming sound. My first thought was the central unit had exploded, but sadly, minutes later, we discovered anything but that had just happened over our heads. I still clearly remember the events of the Challenger explosion as if it were yesterday, not twenty-one years ago as a five year old sitting right in front of a tv in a kindergarten classroom, so having this happen so close to home put a lot of things about life in perspective. I love the space program, I was a Young Astronaut in elementary school. I was giddy with excitement when Buzz Aldrin spoke at my university several years ago. I’d love it if space travel for us mere mortals became a reality before I leave this life. But then, for one week every year now, I remember those who’ve lost their lives giving the rest of us hope for that future. God Speed Apollo I, Challenger, and Columbia.
